Our Farm Management

We farm our land biologically —  by “feeding” the soil, which in turn grows a variety of nutritious grasses and herbs, enjoyed by our alpacas

By testing the soil and plants annually, we apply the necessary minerals and trace elements in a mix of composted RPR, composted serpentine and bio lime.  In addition to this, we foliar spray liquid seaweed and biodynamic preparations onto the pasture at specific times of the year. The results of the treatments to the soil are noticeable by general herd health and well being of both our alpacas and our cattle.

To increase the biodiversity of our land, we’ve planted a selection of trees and plants (willows, alders, black woods, copper sheen, coprosma and flaxes).  Alpacas are partial to all of these species, as well as pasture plants including chicory, plantain and dandelion to name a few.
